Description (John O’Donavan’s Townland index 1862):

It is the property of Mr. Lambert, all cultivated with the exception of a few acres near its north-west centre. The road from Athenry to Galway forms part of its boundary and there are gravel pits towards its south boundary. Near its north-west centre stands a triangulation station, 108 feet above the level of the sea.

Situation (John O’Donavan’s Townland index 1862):

It is situated 4 miles west of Athenry bounded on the north by Lackagh parish, on the east by Ballanloughaun and Moor, on the south by Barretts Park and west by Carnmore.

It is in the barony of Clare and in the E.D.. of Aughrim.  It is situared 4 miles west of Athenry.

Census of 1841 and 1851

According to the 1841 and 1851 census the population figures for Cashia changed dramatically.

 In 1841 there was a total of 85 people living there, 59 men and 46 women.  In 1851 there was nobody left in the village and no explanation as to where the people went.  There was a total of 12 houses, which were inhabited in 1841 and by 1851 all of these houses were  uninhabited..

Archaeology

The archeological survey of Athenry by Dr. Gosling reveals that there is an enclosure and souterrain in Cashia.  O’Donovan stated that there are gravel pits towards the southern extremity.
