Description (John O’Donavan’s Townland index 1862):
This townland is intersected by many roads and in the south-west stands a fort used as a burial ground and in it the ruins of a chapel called Tamplekilmona. Fifty acres of this land at its south end is liable to flood. South-east of this burial grounds is a cahir at 24 chains distance. The average height above sea level is 83 feet.
Situation (John O’Donavan’s Townland index 1862):
It is situated 2 miles south-southwest of Athenry bound on the north by Mulpit, on the west by Killeeneen parish, on the south and east by Clamper Park and Turloughalanger.
Castleturvin is in the Athenry Barony and in the E.D. of Greethill. Castleturvin means Turvin’s Castle. There is an area in Castleturvin called Ballinderegg.
