Success of Ploughing Championships
Letter of Appreciation.
Visitor’s Pleasurable Memories.
Mr. Larry Lardner, Hon. Sec. to the joint committee, All-Ireland ploughing championships, held in Athenry last week has received the following appreciative letter from Mr.J.J. Bergin, Maybrook, Athy, Hon.Sec. National Ploughing Association:
“Would you please convey to the chairman and members of your committee a message of appreciation for the very excellent and business like arrangements made in connection with every detail of the local organising work of the fourth National Ploughing Championships. The courtesy of everybody, the homely atmosphere, the lavish hospitality and the grand spirit of unity in a common cause which the visitors experienced during their brief stay in Athenry, have made a deep impression on us and will not be readily forgotten. These are not my sentiments alone; they would be repeated by every visitor if opportunity offered. Therefore, on behalf of the competitors and their friends from seventeen counties, I offer your committee and the people of Galway this little acknowledgment. The experience as a whole should make anybody proud of a country capable of such things. What a pity it is that we cannot all unite for the still greater and nobler work of Ireland, one and undivided, peaceful and happy”
At a meeting of the joint committee in the Railway Hotel on Sunday last, Mr. J. J. Ruane, Chairman, presiding, a vote of thanks was passed to all those who supplied horses for the Ploughing Championships. Members expressed their great satisfaction that the championships were a splendid success from every point of view.
