Development of Tourism

The development of the medieval town of Athenry from a tourism perspective is a very viable prospect, according to a study carried out in one of the UCG Community Development and Enterprise Programmes.

Author of the report Aideen Rynne said that until recently the tourist potential of Athenry had not been fully realised but it was now recognised that there is a need for all organisations in the town to work together.

Two surveys in relation to local tourism are currently being completed and the group involved in the project intend to extend their work on Athenry’s tourism potential.
