Galway, August 18: Two Soldiers called late at Night at the Door of an Alehouse in Athenry and wanted Drink ; but the Woman of the House being in Bed, answered, she had none ; whereupon they broke open the Door, and were abusing the Woman for not getting them Liquor; and upon the Woman’s crying out, her Husband (or Brother) came to her Relief, snatch’d up a Pitch Fork, and ran one of the Soldiers through the Body with it, who instantly expired. The Woman and the other Soldier are brought Prisoners to this Town, but the Person who committed the Murder hath made his escape.
