Information on the History of each Building

The part of the building on the right  was formally a thatched house owned by Patrick Duffy; Joe Keating had a garage there leased from Patrick Duffy; later it was  purchased by Martin and Maureen Burke;  Mace Store owned by P. J. Greaney; Michael and Marcella Burke. 

The left part was a thatched house occupied by Mrs. Cunniffe. Later it was bought by Patrick Doherty who used it as a store room for his shop around the corner in North Gate Street.

Built by Martin and Maureen Burke ; then bought by Drs. McGloin,Keane and O’Conner; later occupiers included Mrs. Kilkelly, Peggy Kilkelly, ,  Attracta Farrell. Old shed was a garage for Dalys who owned the current Pegi Brownes at the top of North Gate Street.

Owned by Jack and Mrs Brennan. He was a builder from Ardrahan. They had 2 sons (Silvie and Jodie) and 4 daughters

Derelict Site and formerly a slaughter house owned by Mio Dempsey

Owned by Mrs Whiriskey. She purchased it from Eddie Somers. The Flynn sisters, Ellen and Sally, who had a drapery shop in the Athenry Square, used it.

Owned by Mrs Whiriskey, a hairdresser. Previous occupiers, owners or renters: Mr Murphy, Christy Caulfield, Mrs Morrison, Joe Keating, Pa Hall and Josie Kennedy.

Current owner is Eoin Shaughnessy. Previous owner was his father and before that Martin Glynn.

Renters were: Pat Melia (Garda), Garda Henry, Mattie Walsh, truck driver for Corbetts and who was the last person to live in the River Bed.

Paddy cahhill lived here. A renter was Jim Barrett, a relation of Mrs. Cahill. Another renter was Mrs. Igoe, who was often seen reading her books sitting on the window ledge. Mrs Igoe later rented the first house on the left side of the entrance to Church Street.

Mickey and Moira Coen. His father, Tommy Coen  owned it. he and Mrs Coen had a family: Mickey, Eanna and sean.
