The committee in charge of the National Ploughing Championship at Athenry held a general meeting on Saturday. Mr. J. J. Ruane, Chairman, presiding. Other members present were: R. McKay (Vice-Chairman), R. O’Collins (Treasurer), L. Lardner (Secretary), Rev. Bro. Jarlath, J. McGrath, M. Kelly, T Fox, W. Molloy, B. O’Sullivan, D. Garvey, T. Clancy, T. Madden, P. Ruane, M. Raftery, T. Cunningham and J. Heneghan.
Another meeting was held in connection with the county ploughing championship to be held in Athenry next year. Rev. Bro. Jarlath presided. It was decided to hold the County Ploughing Championships competition on January 30th 1935 on the lands of the Agricultural Department, Athenry, and those that are coming from districts where parish matches are held will not be allowed to compete unless they have already competed in their own parish, but any individual from districts where no matches are held will also decide that the winner at Athenry would have the option of bringing the County Ploughing Competition to his own parish in 1936.

COUNTY GALWAY PLOUGHING CHAMPIONSHIPS 1935
The County Galway Ploughing Championships will be held on the lands of the Department of Agricultural at Athenry on Wednesday, 30th January 1935. The programme for the event is as follows:
Class 1
Open County Championships for competitors in Parish Matches and all others where no Parish Matches were held.
First Prize: £6; Second Prize: £3; Third Prize: £1; with £1 for the best middle and £1 for the best finish.
Entry Fees: Each parish committee will pay as entry fee 10s to the County Ploughing Association, which sum will cover the entry fee for three teams in the above competition.
Individual Entries: 5s. for each team.
Class 2
Confined to competitors under 21 years of age. First Prize: £3; Second Prize: £2; Third Prize: £1, with £1 for the middle and £1 for the finish.
Entry Fee: 2s 6d for each team.
Prizes will not be paid in this competition until such time as satisfactory evidence of age is produced.
The opening of the county ploughing championships is at 11o’clock sharp. Admission to the grounds is 6p, while motor cars cost 2s 6d.
There will be a grand dance held in the Town Hall, Athenry on the night of the Ploughing match.

COUNTY GALWAY PLOUGHING CHAMPIONSHIPS DECIDED AT ATHENRY.
The County Galway Ploughing Championships were held on the lands of the Department of Agricultural, Athenry, on Wednesday. The weather was favourable and there was a good attendance. There were 16 competitors; 11 in the open section and 5 in the juvenile section. The number last year was 18 competitors. The judges reported that the ploughing generally showed an improvement on last year’s test and the work in the juvenile section was outstanding.
Mr. L. Lardner, Hon. Secretary, having announced the judges decisions, thanked the judges and competitors for having come a distance and making such a success of the competitions.
