Thirty-year-old Goose

Source: Derry Journal, Wednesday, February 26, 1862

Mrs. Madden, of Gloves’ Cottage, Athenry, has a goose which has reached the extraordinary age of thirty years. Last year the creature laid twelve eggs, which she hatched; and has commenced laying this spring already. It is quite able to walk, but its sight is somewhat impaired. The lady referred to above has another of the same kind which is over twenty-five years old. Both geese are very fat and heavy, and the latter one, as yet, has not lost its sight.
